About Amanda

Hi! I’m Amanda, a licensed elementary teacher with a Master’s degree in Elementary Education and 5+ years of classroom teaching experience. I’m passionate about helping children become confident, capable readers and creating positive learning experiences that meet each student where they are.

Throughout my career, I’ve worked with students across multiple elementary grade levels, including Kindergarten, third grade, and fifth grade. I’ve also provided individualized reading support to students with a variety of learning needs and language backgrounds. These experiences have shaped my belief that every child can grow when instruction is tailored to their needs and they feel encouraged, supported, and understood.

I have training in Orton-Gillingham and structured literacy, and I enjoy making reading instruction interactive, explicit, and engaging. I strive to break skills into manageable steps, celebrate progress, and help students build the confidence to tackle new challenges independently. As a tutor, I want students to feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and discovering what works best for them. I also value communication with families so we can work together toward meaningful progress.

In my free time, I love getting lost in a good book, going for a run, practicing Pilates, and exploring Colorado’s beautiful hiking trails. I also enjoy baking, spending time with family and friends, and escaping to the mountains on the weekends whenever I can. I bring that same curiosity and love of learning to my work with students, and I look forward to helping your learner strengthen their reading skills and discover that reading can be rewarding!

**My Teaching Approach**

I’m a licensed elementary teacher with a Master’s degree in Elementary Education and training in Orton-Gillingham and structured literacy. I believe every student learns differently, and my goal is to make reading instruction engaging, supportive, and tailored to each learner’s needs, strengths, and goals.

**Teaching Methods and Techniques**

My approach combines explicit, systematic instruction with hands-on, multisensory activities to help students build strong reading foundations. Using Orton-Gillingham strategies, I incorporate phonics, sound-symbol relationships, decoding, spelling, fluency, and other foundational literacy skills as appropriate. I adjust my teaching based on each student’s current abilities, learning style, and progress, helping them develop skills while building confidence and independence.

**What a Typical Lesson Looks Like**

Each lesson is personalized to the student. We might begin by reviewing previously learned skills, then move into a focused lesson introducing or practicing a new concept. Depending on the student’s goals, activities may include multisensory phonics practice, word building, decoding, spelling, reading connected text, and fluency work. I check for understanding throughout the lesson and use the student’s progress to guide what we practice next. I want students to leave each session feeling successful, supported, and ready to keep learning.

**What Sets Me Apart**

I bring five years of elementary classroom teaching experience, along with experience providing individualized reading support to students with different learning needs and language backgrounds. In the classroom, I used DIBELS assessment results and Amplify data to monitor reading development, identify areas for growth, and inform instruction. My experience has taught me the importance of meeting students where they are, celebrating progress, and making learning both purposeful and encouraging. I combine the perspective of a licensed classroom teacher with specialized training in structured literacy.

**Who My Lessons Are For**

I work with elementary-aged learners who want to strengthen their reading skills, develop a stronger literacy foundation, or gain confidence as readers. Lessons can support students who are learning foundational phonics and decoding, developing fluency and comprehension, or benefiting from a more individualized approach than they may receive in a classroom. I also welcome multilingual learners and students who benefit from explicit, structured, multisensory instruction.

Whether your child is building early reading skills or looking to strengthen existing ones, I aim to create a positive learning environment where they feel comfortable asking questions, taking on challenges, and recognizing their own growth.
