About Adela
Hi, I'm Adela!
I am a licensed educator and school counselor with a Bachelor's degree in Middle Grades Education from Elon University and a Master's degree in School Counseling from UNC Chapel Hill. I am also a native Mandarin speaker who is fluent in English, giving me a unique perspective on language learning, communication, and academic success.
Over the years, I have worked with students in a variety of settings, including public schools, school counseling programs, tutoring, and college essay support. I have helped students strengthen their reading, writing, study skills, confidence, and academic performance while supporting them through important educational transitions.
My approach is patient, encouraging, and student-centered. I believe every student can succeed when they are given the right support, clear expectations, and a positive learning environment. Whether a student needs help building foundational skills, improving their writing, preparing for college applications, or gaining confidence in English, I strive to make learning engaging and meaningful.
Outside of education, I enjoy reading, cooking, fitness, fashion, and musical theater. I love connecting with students and helping them discover their strengths while working toward their goals.

Hi, I'm Adela!
I am a licensed educator and school counselor with a Bachelor's degree in Middle Grades Education from Elon University and a Master's degree in School Counseling from UNC Chapel Hill. I have experience teaching in public schools, working as a Writing Center Consultant, and supporting students with academic writing, reading comprehension, ESL, and college application essays.
My teaching philosophy is simple: students learn best when they feel supported, challenged, and confident. I tailor every lesson to the individual student because no two learners are exactly alike. Some students need help building foundational reading and writing skills, while others are preparing for advanced coursework, standardized tests, or college applications.
A typical lesson begins with identifying the student's goals and areas of need. From there, I create structured but engaging lessons that combine skill development with practical application. Depending on the student's needs, we may work on reading comprehension, essay writing, grammar, vocabulary, study skills, or college application materials. I believe students learn best by actively practicing rather than simply listening to explanations.
What sets me apart is my background in both education and counseling. I focus not only on academic growth but also on building confidence and reducing the anxiety that many students experience around writing and schoolwork. As a former Writing Center Consultant, I have worked with students on everything from academic essays to graduate school application materials. As a school counseling intern, I also helped high school students develop college application essays and personal statements.
I work with middle school, high school, college, and adult learners. I especially enjoy working with students who want to strengthen their writing skills, improve their academic performance, build confidence in English, or prepare for college applications.
