About Hawley
In helping others to understand, I know how it feels from multiple angles as well as the struggles associated with being different or feeling different. I seem to gravitate towards the students who oftentimes appear to have more difficulties opening up to adults. These connections are ever-present in my mind, heart, and spirit. My resiliency and motivation come from the learning, relearning, and even more so, especially after a car accident. Maybe before, I took it for granted. This is not something I necessarily share with my students directly, but communication fostering the lightbulb to turn on in a young person’s mind means the world to me, each and every time it occurs. My enthusiasm for the ability to learn cannot be overstated. Self-transformation, awareness, kindness, humor, lifelong learning skills, reaching the whys is sort of what comes first - possibly to confer the contextualized reason - in lieu of the abstractness that sometimes occurs - by an adult when the challenges seem like nothing other than just that.
In gaining trust, one must open oneself up to learning and to then have the tenacity to nurture and respond to the learning process. It is the most exhilarating sensation. Making those connections first, to bridge language components for self-expression are the skills that can overcome all barriers, even and including those barriers within, and then knowing how to do it for themselves - having the courage to try it out again and again, for themselves and most importantly learning from within. These metacognitive skills include learning any and all new concepts. Instilling the values that relate to taking on challenges on learning anew, I look forward to demonstrating the instruction for learning how to learn anything and everything. Making meaning from the repeated practice of mapping out logical hierarchical structure/connections, doing so in the form of drawing, verbal expression, written language, over and over again, so that resiliency perpetuates the construct for learning from within about anything.

Tutoring two fifth grade students online to write a personal multi-paragraph personal narrative about a past, present, future narrative. In getting to know student #1, a special needs fifth grader who I got to know during ZOOM support offered after school for students improving math facts - he and I completely hit it off! Within a week, I sensed his change, as did his dad, and a few weeks later my student's mother shared my impact with a friendly neighbor and then an additional student joined the two of us.
I am kind, attentive, able to match pace accordingly, positive, repetitive practice, incremental extensions of prior learn based on student performance, questions - lots of them, comfort level to then add subsequent development of the new learning with the old. Based on strategy research, progress monitoring, and keeping our communication multi-dimensional and according to strengths and weaknesses both.
We completely hit it off and his mother shared my impact with one of his classmates from the neighborhood.

Hawley was a graduate student of mine at Bridgewater State University. She studied special education and did very well in all my courses. In addition, Hawley is an excellent writer, which could be valuable at Superprof.
