About Tesni
Hello! I’m TJ, a Liberal Arts master's graduate and experienced tutor across a variety of arts and social science subjects. I’m passionate about learning and love to share this passion with others through tutoring. I believe that enjoying a subject makes it so much easier, and so design my lessons to be friendly, fun and stress-free.
I also believe that success in learning is not just based on understanding content, but the ability to think critically about the information you've been taught. I aim to equip students with the techniques and skills to not only allow them to improve in one subject, but to make them more confident and effective learners overall.
I’ve been tutoring for over four years now, and have experience with a variety of pupils, including those with SEND needs and ESL students. As a neurodivergent student myself, I’m passionate about making all students who learn a little differently feel comfortable in my lessons. I also have experience of teaching students of a variety of ages, as individuals and in small groups.
I specialise in teaching English Language, English Literature, Media Studies, and Music. I achieved highly in all these subjects at A-Level and have continued to study them all as part of my degree.

The content and structure of my lessons can be guided by the individual needs of pupils. In general, I tend to focus each lesson on one topic and use this as an example with which to also introduce or practise key exam skills.
I divide each lesson into a series of small, (hopefully!) fun tasks that practise skills needed to answer an exam-style question. Then, I include a longer, exam-style question for pupils to practise these skills and their exam technique.
I tend to keep assessment in the lessons more informal (i.e. practice questions/quizzes with feedback given rather than tests that are given specific marks) and avoiding given specific pieces of homework (although I often suggest what a pupil can do to practise a skill or revise a topic in between lessons), to ensure that I’m not putting extra pressure on already-busy pupils! If you think that you/your child could benefit from more formal assessment/homework in lessons, however, we can discuss this further.
In general, I aim to make my lessons enjoyable and engaging while introducing pupils to key topics and skills they need to achieve their goals in their subjects.
