About Oliver
I consider myself as a very friendly person, with a very open approach to teaching in taking into account each student as their own people, with different skill sets, areas to improve upon, ambitions, etc. Therefore, I guarantee that each lesson will be moulded specifically to each student. I am very familiar with what exam boards will demand in terms of skills with language and, in line with my approach, will structure lessons in order for students to feel confident in their own abilities, yet more importantly in what grade they are pursuing. Nothing that is too challenging will be forced upon them, and will look to challenge them accordingly. In lessons, I look to connect with students with balance: laughs and smiles, with some hard work and discipline.
I have some experience tutoring one of my former teachers' children at playing the drums, and have employed some of her own techniques into my teaching. Students will be able to trust me as an aptly prepared and experienced tutor at GCSE or A level standard.

I have vast experience at this level, as well as at GCSE, with the addition of tutoring for one of my former teachers' children in the past and learning efficient ways to teach that way. I am very familiar with areas in which language students will struggle, and ways of getting around that.
Before pen goes to paper, or fingers to keyboard, I am to:
-> Build an excellent working relationship, getting to know individual students. What level they are working at, plus their own strengths and weaknesses when learning a language.
-> Create a suitable working environment which not only encourages dedication, but also a few smiles and laughs. Learning languages at whichever level, above all, is meant to be good fun.
During lessons, we will:
-> Focus on what students are after, whether that be speaking, writing, reading, areas of grammar, or techniques to learning vocab. I follow your agendas.
Speaking:
- Stress reduction
- Spoken grammar
Writing:
- Spelling, written grammar, sentence structuring
Reading:
- Key patterns in language, word families, etc.
-> Use a variety of learning resources that suit the student's course, exam board, and their own aims for each session (worksheets, articles, open questions, etc.) This also entails homework between sessions, should students find it useful - Memrise is an obvious and useful task.
Lessons are typically around 1 hour in length.
