About Vinnie
Over the years as a tutor, I’ve learned that every student can succeed in maths; they just need the right guidance, patience, and encouragement. My goal is simple: to make sure your child not only improves their grades but truly understands what they’re learning and feels proud of their progress.
I am a retired high-frequency algorithmic trader, who before becoming a part-time tutor worked in London and New York after earning master’s degrees in Applied Mathematics and Engineering from Columbia University, and an Economics degree from the London School of Economics. But what I’ve found most meaningful is seeing the moment a student finally gets it: that spark of confidence that changes how they see themselves.
Having experienced several extremely competitive academic environments (including national Maths and Physics Olympiads), I know what it’s like to face academic pressure, and I bring that same mix of rigour and empathy to every lesson. Whether a student is struggling or aiming for top grades, I tailor my approach to their goals, ensuring they always feel supported, challenged, and capable.
Over the past few years, I’ve tutored students across a range of settings, from one-on-one GCSE and A-Level support to university-level teaching. I began through Columbia University's tutoring agency, where I helped low-income secondary school students improve their grades, exam technique, and self-belief. I’ve also served as a teaching assistant at the postgraduate level, supporting courses in mathematics, physics, and engineering.
I’m well-versed in the major exam boards—Edexcel, AQA, and OCR—as well as in international frameworks such as IB and IGCSE. Whether your child is aiming for a Grade 5 in Foundation Tier GCSE Maths or an A* in A Level Further Maths, I bring both rigour and encouragement to help them get there.

My goal is to empower students to become confident, independent learners who not only succeed in exams but also enjoy the subject.
Each lesson is fully tailored to the student’s needs — whether we’re raising predicted grades, mastering exam technique, or rebuilding confidence after a tough term.
I create a friendly, open environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes — because that’s how real learning happens. I prioritise clear explanations, lots of practice, and immediate feedback to build confidence and fluency.
Over time, I aim to do more than just boost exam results: I want my students to develop the study habits, problem-solving skills, and self-belief that will serve them long after our lessons end.

“Before working with Vinnie, I was getting 5s in my mocks. After three months, I got an 8 in my GCSEs. He helped me understand topics I’d been stuck on for years, especially algebra and trigonometry. His lessons are super clear and well-organised — totally worth it.”
Vinnie is an exceptional tutor. He worked with my daughter for just three months before her A-levels, and her improvement was incredible. She achieved a grade higher than we had even hoped for. His approach is structured, calm, and encouraging and exactly what a nervous student needs
My 17 yr old son came out of his session saying he'd learned so much in that 1st hour session with Vinnie and asked when he could meet with him again (even agreeing to meet on a Friday evening and not go out with friends, if you can believe it!) Very grateful for his help and we will continue to use him through the remainder of the school year to help my son keep up! Thank you Vinnie
