About Roberto

My biography

From the age of 11, I have been fascinated by the world of cinema.

I graduated from the Roberto Rossellini State Institute for Cinematography and Television (the National Film School in Rome) and quickly began my career as a camera assistant on several prestigious film and advertising productions, including Channel 5 by Luc Besson. I also made several short films.

When I was offered a position at RAI, I turned it down and crossed the ocean to explore other opportunities.

I was fascinated by the energy and dynamism of Canada’s audiovisual industry.

In 2010, I decided to put down my backpack in Montréal. Since then, I have directed, co-written, and worked as a cinematographer and editor on numerous commercials, short films, and corporate videos, while also developing television projects (documentary series, docufiction, and fiction) as well as two feature-film projects.

Early on, I also became involved with the Kino Montréal community, making short films that were screened at the ICFF and the Montréal Short Film Festival.

I am a member of the ARRQ.

I am co-owner of TOTALLY UNNECESSARY PRODUCTIONS Inc., through which I independently produced an entire medium-length film, An Ordinary Adventure. I also co-wrote, directed, and co-produced my first feature film, Dans une semaine.

I am also an acting instructor at INIS.

I created an acting workshop to produce independent films with La porte rouge—a theatre company and cooperative for theatre artists.

I'm a teacher at the INIS - HISTORY OF ITALIAN CINEMA

How to Write a Screenplay in Ten Days:

Writing a screenplay for a film, a feature-length film, is actually quite simple. It’s not that complicated. It’s simply a matter of understanding what you want to tell.

The key, in fact, is not to look for original stories, but to remember what we have experienced and what that event became—why it became so original, so distinctive, so unique. Why it made us laugh, why it made us cry, why it moved us, why it made us think.

That is the foundation for writing the next film, for writing the next story.

Don’t look for characters outside of ourselves. Instead, look for the person within us.
