  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I've always known I wanted to teach, though I wasn't sure of the subject at first. Everything changed in Year 12 when I had an incredible Physics teacher who made the subject come alive. Their enthusiasm and ability to make complex ideas relatable inspired me to pursue Physics and Maths. As a tutor, I get to do what I love most-personalize each session to meet my students' unique needs and spark that same love for learning that my teacher gave me.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, and the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you want a little less).

Physics, Maths, and Spanish are all about understanding the world around us. I love diving into the "why" behind concepts-uncovering the stories and history behind scientific discoveries. For example, discussing how Physics has evolved makes it more than just numbers and formulas; it becomes a story of human curiosity and innovation. That's why I enjoy teaching the Year 12 Physics curriculum-it's full of opportunities to explore deeper ideas. While formulas are sometimes unavoidable, I prefer helping students understand where they come from and why they matter.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Absolutely! During university, I had a professor who remains a role model to this day. He was incredibly humble despite being brilliant and successful. His approach to teaching and life showed me that you can achieve great things while staying grounded and approachable. That's the kind of teacher I aspire to be-knowledgeable, but always kind and supportive.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Being student-centered is key. A great tutor takes the time to understand their students' strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles and then balances those to create a tailored program. Empathy and adaptability are just as important as subject knowledge-you need to meet students where they are and guide them toward their goals with patience and encouragement.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One of my favourite tutoring moments was while preparing a student for the HSC. We ended up discussing The Simpsons Movie in the context of centripetal force-it was hilarious and memorable. Breaking down the physics behind an animated scene sparked a deeper connection to the topic and made learning genuinely enjoyable. Moments like that remind me why I love teaching-it's about making connections and having fun while learning.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

One ongoing challenge in teaching Physics is breaking the stereotype that it's all about formulas. Sure, formulas are essential, but Physics is also about the stories behind discoveries, and the evolution of theories, most of the students are good at the numerical part, but when they have to write almost 4 paragraphs in one answer to get all the marks they feel intimidated. But I am here to help them with the hard part, making it fun and showing the human side of Physics, how ideas developed and changed and even sharing some "gossip" from the scientific community.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion lies in making learning meaningful and accessible. I enjoy connecting material to my students' interests, whether it's the logic of Physics, the patterns in Maths, or the cultural richness of Spanish. Outside of teaching, I love staying active and going to the gym.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

I bring enthusiasm, expertise, and a personal touch to every session. I don't just teach subjects; I help students see how they fit into the bigger picture, whether it's cracking a tricky equation, uncovering the secrets of the universe, or mastering a new language. My goal is to make learning fun, relatable, and empowering - because when students enjoy the process, the results take care of themselves!
