About Ai
Hi, I’m Ai
I’m half Japanese and Filipino, originally from Fukuoka.
I studied traditional Japanese confectionery and tea culture and earned a certificate in Japanese confectionery. I’m deeply passionate about the artistry and meaning behind Wagashi, where each sweet reflects the seasons, nature, and the beauty of Japanese tradition.
My dream is to share the culture, elegance, and inspiration of Japanese sweets with others, and help people experience the heart of Japan through its confectionery and tea traditions.

Teaching Techniques & Methodology
My lessons are live, interactive online classes where students learn step-by-step how to make traditional Japanese confectionery (wagashi). I demonstrate each technique clearly and guide students through the process so they can follow along from their own kitchen.
During the class, I also explain what wagashi is, where it originated, and its cultural significance in Japan, including its connection to the seasons and Japanese tea culture. Students are encouraged to ask questions throughout the lesson to make the experience engaging and supportive.
Typical Length of a Lesson
Online lessons typically last 60–90 minutes. This gives us time to learn about the history of wagashi, prepare the confectionery together step-by-step, and discuss techniques and presentation.
Qualifications & Experience
I studied traditional Japanese confectionery (wagashi) and tea culture at Fukuoka Wagashi School ANN in Japan, where I completed my course and received a certificate in wagashi making.
I have also taught wagashi classes at Monash University, guiding students through the process of making Japanese sweets while explaining their history and cultural significance.
Who My Lessons Are For
My online classes are suitable for:
Beginners with no prior experience
People interested in Japanese culture and traditional sweets
Anyone who enjoys hands-on cooking and learning something new
Students can join from anywhere and learn in a relaxed, beginner-friendly environment from their own kitchen.
