About Alberto

I’m Alberto Garrido, a professional table tennis coach based in London. I’ve been coaching for 10+ years, working with beginners who want to feel confident in the office league, ambitious club players chasing results, and competitive athletes who need structure, detail and accountability. My coaching style is simple: make you improve fast without making training boring. I adapt every session to your level, your learning style and your goals — whether that’s “I just want to beat my friends”, “I want to stop losing tight sets”, or “I want to compete seriously”. As a player, I’m currently top 100 in the Uk and top 200 in Spain. That experience helps me teach not only technique, but also tactics, decision-making and confidence under pressure. I also have strong experience coaching players with disabilities and para athletes — including working as head coach for Ángel Garrido, a Spanish Paralympian. Outside 1–2–1 lessons, I’m involved in developing table tennis communities and coaching programmes in London through FlickTT (private coaching, group sessions, kids programmes and table tennis experiences). If you’re ready to train with a clear plan, get honest feedback, and see real progress, send me a message and tell me: your level, your goal, and what you struggle with most.

Languages: English and Spanish Every lesson is structured and tailored, but typically we’ll follow this progression:
 1. Quick assessment (first minutes) We identify your biggest “leaks”: timing, contact, footwork, serve/receive, or tactical choices.
 2. Technical foundations (simple + repeatable) Grip, stance, body use, spin, consistency — the basics that make everything else easier.
 3. Footwork & movement (real, not robotic) Positioning, recovery steps, balance, and movement patterns that translate directly to matches.
 4. Serve & receive (the fastest way to win more points) Spin reading, short game, effective serves, and clear receive options.
5. Tactical training & match scenarios What to play, when to change, how to build points, and how to stop “giving away” free points.
6. Pressure & confidence Routines for tight scores, decision-making under stress, and staying calm when it matters.

If you want, I can also give you a personal training plan (what to practise between sessions) so you don’t rely only on lesson time — you improve week by week with direction.

Usual questions:

What age did you start playing sport? Tell us about this time or moment in your life. I started playing table tennis when I was 6. It quickly became part of my daily life — not just as a sport, but as a way to build discipline, patience and competitive mindset. My family environment was strongly connected to the sport, and that helped me fall in love with both playing and coaching from a young age. What are your favourite sports; those that you practice at a high level, a simple hobby, and a sport that you’d still like to discover? Table tennis has always been my main sport. I also trained swimming seriously for a period, and today I enjoy staying active with cycling and other sports. I love anything that develops coordination, rhythm and movement quality — it always comes back to the table. What gives you the motivation and passion to pursue your sport? I’m motivated by one thing: watching someone unlock a new level. The moment a student finally “feels” the spin, stops panicking under pressure, or wins a match they used to lose every time — that’s why I coach. Table tennis teaches patience, responsibility, and calm decision-making in pressure moments, and those skills go far beyond sport. How do you help people stay motivated? I keep motivation high by creating sessions that feel like progress: clear goals, measurable improvements, and variety that still makes sense. We change drills to avoid boredom, but everything is connected to your objective — and you always leave knowing what to practise next. What makes you a Superprof in sports? Because I combine high-level playing experience with real coaching structure and a friendly, patient approach. I’m fully committed to adapting to each student — from first-time players to competitive athletes — and making every session productive, focused and enjoyable.

  • What age did you start playing sport? Tell us about this time or moment in your life.

I started playing table tennis when I was 6. My brother is also a professional table tennis player (he competed in the Paralympic games Sydney 2000) and he was my first instructor. Besides, my dad has helped me to learn how to play.
  • What are your favourite sports; those that you practice at a high level, a simple hobby, and a sport that you'd still like to discover?

Apart from table tennis, I used to swim professionally for 3 years. As for hobbies, I like riding a bike, football and tennis.
  • What gives you the motivation and passion to pursue your sport?

Table tennis has brought to my life patient, attitude, responsibility, commitment and an improvement in my taking decisions under the pressure moments that I love teaching to the youngest players and all the player who want to improve their table tennis skills.
  • Do you have a sporting achievement that you're particularly proud of?

As a general player, I'm very proud of having learnt to respect all kind of players and people. My biggest sporting achievement was becoming runner-up of Spain and playing the top division in my country.
  • How have your achievements and challenges made you a better sportsperson?

By competing and taking the responsibility of training during 7 days a week, made me a better sportsperson learning how to deal with bad days and hard defeats.
  • If you had to go for a jog with a famous athlete, who would you choose? And what questions would you ask them?

I would choose for a jog to Timo Boll, my favourite table tennis player. He has motivated thousands of players during the last decades with his passion and commitment to the sport. I would ask him about his professional career, what's the difference between old and current table tennis and who was his favourite player.
  • How do you help people stay motivated?

I always try to keep my players motivated and encouraged by variating the exercises and movements. Avoiding the routines and being creative is always a good choice.
  • What makes you a Superprof in sports?

Loving table tennis and loving teaching makes me the perfect opportunity for those who want to rocket up their table tennis level.
