As a combined 35-year teacher and administrator for the Irvine Unified School District and current TOSA with the Language Development Department, I had the privilege of directly working with and observing Kolleen’s professional growth and mastery as an ESL educator. She passionately and effectively engages in assisting learners not only with acquiring the English language, but also with adjusting to and thriving in the United States. Her expertise of designing and implementing differentiated curriculum, ability to assess the needs and progress of each student, and provide instruction in a myriad of learning environments from one to one, hybrid, small group to virtual was indeed impressive. Additionally, her ability to discover and research and then seamlessly integrate innovative technics and unique programs to enhance student achievement was masterful.
Beyond her instructional skills, Kolleen’s interpersonal abilities truly set her apart. Her patience, warmth, enthusiasm and encouragement were vital for creating a non-threatening, comfortable environment for non-English speaking children and adults to learn. In addition, her own myriad of life experiences traveling to and living in other countries where she was a language learner allow her to genuinely understand the needs and hurdles her students face.
Kolleen is a kind, passionate, and highly skilled educator who would be a wonderful addition the Superprof team.
