About Samuel
I have a passion for the arts. Experience in painting, drawing, sculpture, digital painting, design, desktop publishing, film-making, animation, live event graphics, big screen technical operations, vision mixing, and production.
I have worked as an animator on children’s shows for Walt Disney Television. I taught CGI animation for Freelance Animation School.
Currently working on "The Art Nouveau Manifesto", my book and documentary.
In 2015 I went to Cannes for the Marche du Film where I attended the Producers Workshop there.
I have had the opportunity to work with some talented people on some very exciting projects.
My short film "Valley of the Succubus" accepted into the Short Film Corner at Festival de Cannes 2013. My documentary NZ Burlesque Festival accepted into the Stereoscopic3D festival in Belgium. I shoot and edit all my productions. I was top of my filmmaking classes before entering the industry in 1994.
I was the first employee of Toonz Animation with no formal training in animation. Up to production speed there after two weeks of in-house training. I trained other animators working on animated shows for Walt Disney Television.
The debut CD I co-directed for LOOP Magazine quoted as “the best thing to come out of New Zealand ever!” by Satchi and Satchi.
One of 350 producers at the exclusive Producers Workshop at Festival de Cannes 2015.

I am a friendly and positive person. I have a great passion for the arts which inspires my students.
My teaching methodology is demonstrating and instructing the practical while introducing the basic theory and history.
I start with an introduction and a lesson overview, break down the steps, clarify the goals and objectives for the lesson. I do this using a talking head piece to camera and slides or animated graphics.
Then I demonstrate the practical steps using timelapse, prerecorded videos or livestreams.
After completing the demonstration I go over the steps, talk about the objectives and what we learned. Then after concluding the lesson part I open up a question and answer panel for student questions.
I run from structured lesson plans. I have been developing them since I was an animation teacher at Freelance Animation School. I have also been developing them with a HOD of art at One Tree Hill College.

Sam is a teacher determined that you will learn what you need to know. He taught me animation many years ago - I had no experience at all other than drawing skills. He instructed me in a logical and methodical manner teaching me first the necessary elements then encouraging me to apply for work in a firm subcontracted to Disney. Most other people in this firm had had 2 to 3 years tuition at an animation school. I got the job after having 1 month of tuition with Sam. I highly recommend him to Superprof members.
