About Stephan
Founder | Lean Consultant at Definite Consulting A proud father of two, and seasoned pastry chef with over 30 years of experience in the baking industry and 17 years as an Operations Manager at one of South Africa’s largest food manufacturers, supplying Woolworths with a wide range of high-quality baked goods. With a deep understanding of both craft and large-scale production, I spent the past four years focused on Lean thinking and continuous improvement, applying these principles to drive cultural and operational transformation from the ground up. Am the co-author of the book The Journey of Lean Transformation, written with Joh Montanari and now available to the public a practical, experience-based reflection on implementing Lean thinking in real-world environments. He also co-authored an article on Lean implementation with Professor Norman Faull, published on PlanetLean.org. Am also the co-founder of The Lean Coffee Cape Town, a long-running community of Lean practitioners that has been meeting for over five years to share insights, challenges, and lessons learned. In 2019, he and his team were named joint winners of the Lean Institute Africa’s “Biggest Change to Lean” Award, a recognition of their impactful and people-centered transformation work. Today, as the founder of Definite Consulting, I works closely with businesses to design and implement systems that empower people, build accountability, and support long-term growth. His approach is hands-on, practical, and rooted in deep operational experience helping leaders and teams simplify processes, solve real problems, and create meaningful change.
