About Haley
Hi, I'm Haley. I'm a Korean-English bilingual teacher with 15 years of classroom experience, based in the Seattle area. I grew up speaking Korean at home and English at school, and my family moved back and forth between the U.S. and Korea, so I spent part of my own childhood in Korean schools. I read, write, and speak both fluently, and I know from the inside what it feels like to be the kid catching up in a language everyone around you already has.
My teacher training started with music. I studied voice, moved into music education, and taught music and musical theater at an international school in Korea. That's where I was handed an ESL class, and it changed my career. I discovered that explaining grammar and getting someone to actually speak are two very different skills, and that teaching a language means teaching the culture and the everyday life behind it.
Around that time I was introduced to Waldorf education while still teaching English as a foreign language. I went on to earn my Waldorf teaching certification and taught lower elementary as a homeroom teacher here in Seattle, then completed a master's in education focused on culturally responsive, place-based, and environmental education.
These days I'm home with my two-year-old, which is exactly why online and near-home teaching works so well for me right now. Outside of class you'll find me camping, traveling, or working on my travel blog.

We'll start by talking about what your ultimate goal is. Reading Hangul (Korean alphabet). Calling your grandmother. Preparing for a trip to Korea. Watching a drama without subtitles. Every goal calls for a different class, so we'll map out how to get there together.
️ From there, my aim is for you to outgrow me. The students who really get somewhere aren't the ones who study hardest for six weeks — they're the ones who build a habit they'd keep up without a tutor. So that's what I teach toward: solid pronunciation, a grammar foundation you can build on, and study habits that hold up long after our lessons end.
️ For younger students, I bring my Waldorf teaching experience into my Korean lessons. This may include songs, stories, drawing, and movement. Children take in language with their whole bodies long before a worksheet helps, and a five-year-old and a thirty-year-old genuinely need different classrooms.
️ For adults, we go after the "why" behind the language. Vocabulary lists don't stick on their own; a phrase sticks when you understand the feeling and the situation it belongs to. If you're already watching Korean shows or listening to Korean music, we'll use what you love as material.
️ Heritage speakers are welcome here. If you understand your parents but freeze when you try to answer, or you speak comfortably but can't read — that's a specific gap, and I've worked with it before. It's also my own story.
I've taught ages three through adult, online and in person, and I'll build something that fits you.
