About Aven
Hi, I'm Aven Ryan. As a passionate music student at the Vancouver Community College (VCC). I'm excited to bring my skills as a guitarist, performer, and singer-songwriter to my students. During my lessons I strive to engage students with productive, skill-building exercises that lead to steady, meaningful progress.
Whether you're brand new or refining your skills, I can help you build healthy practice habits and develop your sound. With a working catalog of 30+ original songs and curated cover set lists, I bring real-world experience into each lesson. My goal is to help students stay engaged, expressive, and excited about their musical journey!

I tailor every lesson to meet each student’s individual goals, whether you're picking up a guitar for the first time or refining your songwriting for performance or recording.
Teaching Methodology & Techniques:
I blend practical technique with musical expression, focusing on building a strong foundation in rhythm, chord knowledge, and ear training. For songwriting, I help students develop lyrical ideas, structure songs effectively, and explore melody writing using both intuition and theory. I emphasize collaborative learning, making lessons interactive and inspiring.
A Typical Lesson:
A standard 60-minute session might include:
A quick warm-up (chords, scales, rhythm)
Reviewing previous material or songs
Exploring new techniques or songwriting tools
Creative time—improvisation, writing, or arranging
Feedback and Q&A
Lessons are goal-oriented but always leave room for creativity and exploration.
What Sets Me Apart:
As a current music student, I'm actively engaged in the contemporary music scene and bring fresh insights, relevant techniques, and a supportive, peer-like energy. I know what it's like to be in the learning process, and I aim to make music feel accessible and exciting, not intimidating.
Who the Lessons Are For:
I teach students of all levels—beginners who want to strum their first chords, songwriters developing their sound, and intermediate players seeking to expand their skills. Whether you're a high school student, adult learner, or aspiring music major, I’ll meet you where you’re at and help you grow.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Aven has been a great friend of mine for many years. He’s kind, respectful, and a natural teacher. Back in high school, I heard him playing a song I really liked and told him how much I wished I could play guitar. He encouraged me to try, assured me it was easier than I thought, and within an hour, he had taught me how to play my first song. That moment really showed me how patient and supportive he is—qualities that make him an excellent teacher.
