About Marshal
Marshal Herridge is a Vancouver-born jazz bassist currently residing in New York, New York. He has shared the stage with some of North America's preeminent jazz musicians including Anthony Wonsey, Andre White, Kirk MacDonald, Joe Sullivan, Kevin Dean, Al McClean, Remi Bolduc, Joe Farnsworth, Steve Cardenas, Mike Rodriguez, Dave Laing, Lorne Lofsky, Peter Bernstein, John Scofield, Donny McCaslin, Dick Oatts, Ari Hoenig, Sam Kirmayer, Caity Gyorgy, Tony Moreno, Pat Labarbera, Larry Goldings, Brian Dickinson amongst others. He holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from Humber College, a Master of Music Degree from McGill University in Jazz Performance, and an Artist Diploma in Jazz Instrumental Performance from New York University. During his time in these institutions, he was fortunate enough to study with such world-renowned performer/composer/educators as Dezron Douglas, Ari Hoenig, Mike Downes, and Neil Swainson, where he learned to hone his craft and develop his own musical conception on the instrument. He was awarded the Oscar Peterson Prize from Humber College (the highest award offered in the program) and received a substantial scholarship to both McGill University and New York University. His debut album Chapter One (released in 2019) pays homage to his heroes Scott LaFaro and Paul Chambers. “Brilliant newcomer Marshal Herridge showcases his talents as a bassist, bandleader, and composer with a thrilling first chapter.” (Matt Micucci, Editor, All About Jazz). “Besides keeping splendid time, Herridge solos eloquently in the manner of his musical heroes, Paul Chambers and Scott LaFaro.” (Jack Bowers, Writer, All About Jazz).
Since then, he has recorded and appeared on numerous other recordings, including a collaboration with JUNO Award-winning Canadian vocalist Caity Gyorgy on one of his most recent singles A Day Too Late, drawing influence from one of his favorite composers/musicians Antonio Carlos Jobim. He has also recorded as a sideman with GRAMMY award-winning musicians including Joe Farnsworth and Mike Rodriguez.
Marshal’s original compositions have been spun on numerous radio programs including CBC Music and he has been featured on various editorial Spotify playlists. Currently, he is freelancing and teaching in New York City living out his bohemian jazz dreams.

I will evaluate your skill level, discuss your goals as a player with you, and then create a custom lesson plan that is best tailored for you. Beginners will learn basic chords and reading skills. For more advanced players, we can dive into specific musical genres and advanced theory concepts. I have 10+ years of experience as a professional musician and 7+ years as a music educator, including at McGill University and NYU. Lessons are for any skill level, all are welcome.
