About Timothy
I have 25 years of practical hands-on Latin and Ancient Greek teaching experience, from the collegiate level to private boarding schools, parochial schools, and public high schools. Learn Latin Prose Composition, Roman Historiography, Latin poetry, Homer, Biblical Greek, Greco-Roman literature in translation, Roman and Ancient Greek history with a tutor who has studied in Athens, Florence and led educational tours throughout the Mediterranean world. I am also skilled at assisting students with the Advanced Placement Latin Exam, a very difficult exam in which only 20% of students have achieved a score of four or higher.

My style of teaching is to help a student "unlearn" the way we typically approach language instruction. We bore down into the morphology of the Latin and Greek - they're inflected languages - and we transition and apply what we have learned to original authors. The goal is to get students to read primary source documents as soon as practical so they can interpret the meanings of Xenophon, Cicero, Catullus, and Homer in their own cadence and linguistic rhythms, breaking free of the bonds of English translations.
Depending upon your skill level, we either start with fundamentals or if you have basic Latin or Greek, we build on that foundation and read any author of your choice - prose or verse!
If you have to learn the skills to pass the Advanced Placement Latin Exam, we can do that, too!

Perfect! Mr. O became my Latin teacher at a time in my life when I just lost the spark and I was trying to find direction again. I have really enjoyed my Latin sessions with Mr. O. He is incredibly patient, has a great sense of humor, and honestly I could talk to him for hours.
His knowledge of the ancient world, Italy, linguistics, Latin (of course), and history in general is invaluable. He is a wealth of knowledge and I highly recommend him. His approach to teaching is perfect for me, as he is very flexible with his schedule, and understands what areas I need improvement in.
If you want to get started on your Latin journey (as I have), or brush up on your current level Timothy is the teacher you need!
Overall, I am incredibly satisfied with my tutoring sessions, and it has given me a new vigor to come back to work in the hospital feeling recharged and with a smile on my face.

Timothy has been my daughter's tutor in Ancient Greek for a few years now. We love him! He is very down-to-earth, flexible, and has a great sense of humor. He breaks things down easily and coaches students through the lessons. We were extremely fortunate to have found him when we did, and I highly recommend him.
Tim O'Flaherty is an excellent instructor, with ample experience and a superior work ethic; I, personally, have been mentored by Tim over the past 4 years, and through his mentorship, I was able to acquire the necessary skills in Classical Latin to allow for me to pursue my Ph.D.
