About Jacob
I’m Jacob Violet, a producer, songwriter, and artist based in Los Angeles. I hold a Master’s degree in Songwriting & Production from Berklee NYC, where I produced, performed, engineered, and collaborated at a professional level every day.
For over a decade, I’ve been making music across genres: electronic, pop, alt, bloghouse, and everything in between. I’ve fronted bands, produced for others, written and arranged songs, mixed and mastered tracks, and built my own artist project (Lossless). This range gives me a unique perspective as both a producer and an artist, which is exactly what I bring into my lessons.
I’ve also worked as a substitute teacher, which taught me patience, adaptability, and how to communicate clearly with students of all ages and learning styles. My teaching approach is encouraging, hands-on, and always tailored to your goals.
Whether you want to:
- Learn Ableton from scratch
- Improve your mixing or vocal production
- Finish a song you’ve been stuck on
-Build electronic tracks step by step
-Develop your creative voice and workflow
…I’ll help you get there with clear guidance, practical techniques, and a supportive learning environment.
Outside of teaching, I’m actively producing and releasing music, DJing, and collaborating with other artists. I love helping students connect their ideas to the tools of modern music production, not just learning software, but learning how to express yourself through sound.

My teaching method is centered on one idea: you learn fastest by creating real music, not following generic tutorials. Every lesson is built around your goals, your sound, and the exact skills you want to develop.
I start by getting to know where you’re at: your taste, your workflow, your strengths, and the things that frustrate you. From there, I create a flexible lesson plan that blends technical learning with hands-on creativity.
A typical lesson includes three parts:
1. Quick check-in & goal setting (2–5 min)
We choose a concrete focus for the session, whether that’s building a beat, cleaning up a mix, tightening vocal production, or exploring a specific technique.
2. Guided creation or problem-solving. This is the core of the lesson. We work directly inside Ableton, often using your own project so the skills you learn apply immediately. Depending on your level, this may include:
- Beatmaking, arrangement, or songwriting
- Mixing and vocal processing
- Sound design with synths
- Layering, transitions, and structure
- Finishing songs efficiently
- Track feedback + real-time fixes
I explain not just what to do, but why, so you can apply the concepts independently.
3. Takeaways & next steps (5–10 min) You’ll leave each session with a clear list of what we covered, the techniques you can practice, and sometimes an optional mini-assignment that keeps you improving between lessons.
What makes my teaching different:
- Artist + producer perspective
I’m not just showing you how the software works, I’m helping you shape your sound, make creative decisions, and finish music that feels authentic.
- Totally personalized lessons
No rigid curriculum. Everything adapts to your pace, your genre, and the way you naturally learn.
- Real-world experience I bring the same workflow I use when producing, mixing, and DJing into our lessons, so you learn techniques that actually translate to modern music.
- Beginner-friendly, but capable of going advanced Whether you’re learning your first DAW or refining advanced mixing and sound design, I adjust the session instantly to match your level.
- Hands-on, not theoretical
We create music together so you’ll understand the process and apply it on your own tracks rather than simply watching me work.
- A supportive learning environment You get clear explanations, encouragement, and patience. No judgment, no ego, just progress!
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
I’ve had the chance to see firsthand how knowledgeable and skilled Jacob is in music production, from working in Ableton and Pro Tools to his experience as a DJ. What stands out most is not just his technical ability, but how naturally he understands sound, rhythm, and creative flow. I’ve personally learned a lot from him through conversations, collaboration, and watching how he approaches music with both precision and intuition. He brings a rare mix of professionalism, creativity, and a deep understanding of the craft that’s hard to find.
I've worked with Jacob on numerous projects across the last 5 years, and he continuously goes above and beyond in every facet. I've commissioned production gigs as well as full mixes/masters, and he never misses the mark. He is extremely reliable and consistent in his work.
