About Divya
I have always been passionate about teaching and finding a career in it. Coming from an ethnic minority and religious minority myself, I feel that I can help inspire other youngsters to achieve their full potential. I was teaching students in my neighbourhood for two years whilst I was doing my degree. During that time, I was able to face challenges as well as experiences which further re-enforced my drive to pursue a career in teaching. I was lucky enough to be able to show my students the pleasure that can be found in learning and seeing their results improved and the confidence my students got from this was an incredible experience. These students came from poorer families within my neighbourhood and it is for this reason why I chose to mentor them in my own free time. I feel that my skills are best suited to help in such a programme.

At law school I had many opportunities to develop my interpersonal skills and knowledge of systems.
As a group leader, I had a key role in resolving problems which arose from conflicting opinions, personality differences, unequal contributions towards the workload, special educational needs within the group and finally different academic abilities. When it came to conflicting opinions, I found that the best way was to give everyone a safe space in which they could voice their thoughts and opinions. In doing this, everyone felt appreciated in the group and we were able to facilitate the best strategy for everyone. When it came to personality differences, I found it important to reaffirm that everyone is appreciated within the group and that we may not all agree, but everyone has the right to their own opinions. This built confidence within the group and I noticed a change and the group was able to work as a stronger unit. This helped in turn to build a sense of group responsibility and the workload began to be equally distributed and submitted, in relation to levels of competency within the group. I feel like this is an excellent example of problem solving because the group we started with had a negative environment, but through optimism and team work, we were able to finish with a group we were really proud of.
Therefore, i intend to use the same method while teaching.
