About India
I started tutoring family friends during lockdown, and continued teaching after university, having completed my Honours degree in Classical Studies. At university, I studied Latin language and literature, as well as ancient art, looking at sculpture and Greek pottery.
I want to help others learn Latin, as it is an incredibly useful and interesting language. Many English derivations come from Latin, and so it helps with everyday vocabulary and grammatical knowledge as well. Latin also provides a great base for learning other modern languages, such as Italian. Through studying Latin, students build skills that can be applied to multiple other subjects, as well as languages more broadly.
I have my DBS certificate, and have completed various child protection courses, such as Bristol Council's Safeguarding Awareness course and the Prevent Awareness Course.

Since graduating, I have been teaching Latin to beginner students, who are interested in learning about the language, as well as the broader cultural context of the ancient world. I teach students from a range of ages, from teenagers to adults, and also teach a number of SEND students.
I try to adapt my content and style to best suit each individual student, looking at building their grammatical confidence, vocabulary knowledge, and understanding of the wider history through grammar exercises, translations and presentations I prepare.
Whilst my lessons are usually an hour, I can be flexible with timings. My classes focus on grammar and syntax, as well as translation, but I am always open to suggestions and will happily look at specific topics my students are interested in, such as ancient medicine or Latin poetry. My own interests include ancient pottery and artworks, and women's roles in antiquity.
I hope to share my interest with others, looking not only at the language, but also the social setting in which Latin was used. I can provide both revision for GCSE students, as well as teaching the language from scratch, with no prior knowledge required or expected!
I can also provide mini courses for students who are interested in learning about Roman and Greek culture and society, but do not want to learn Latin at this stage. This would include 6 lessons over 6 weeks, with each lesson focusing on a different topic. I can tailor this course to suit each student, depending on what they want to learn more about!
