About Krista

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have extensive experience preparing students for studying at UK universities and designing, delivering and assessing modules, from pre-degree to post-graduate levels, in English Language, Modern Foreign Languages, English Language Teaching, English for Academic Purposes, Study Skills, Research Methods and Intercultural Communication. I have trained both pre-service and in-service English language teachers from around the globe and have acted as a personal tutor for many years, mentoring a range of home and international students and helping to ensure their personal and academic success. As a Senior Lecturer, I have also supervised and marked many Master's dissertations in TESOL and Education.

I've been an English language teacher and teacher trainer for 20 years. For the past 14 years, I held the position of Senior Lecturer in TESOL at a British University. I am now self-employed and support the success of home and international students.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach English language, Linguistics, Language Education, Intercultural Communication, Research Skills and Study Skills.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I have a BA (Hons) in Political Studies; a Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA); and an MA in Applied Linguistics: TESOL.

- How much do you charge?

Your first meeting with me is completely free. We will discuss your requirements and how best to proceed. If you book a block of lessons with me, then we will negotiate a discounted price from the normal £30.00 per hour. I also provide you with resources and tips, downloadable free of charge from my website. Proofreading essays/dissertations is normally £8 per 1000 words for work that is straightforward and £9-15 per 1000 words for more complicated work. Editing work is charged at £20-25 per hour. All lessons will normally take place online via Skype or email communication.

- Where do you teach?

Most of my tutoring happens online, via Skype or email. However, I am willing to travel to Lancaster, Morecambe, Kendal, Kirkby Lonsdale, the Lake District, Settle and Skipton.

- When are you available?

My hours are flexible according to students' needs. I am available to work during school holidays and I am also willing to proofread and edit work within tight deadlines.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I normally teach teenagers preparing for university and university students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I also support the academic English of University Lecturers who have English as a Second Language. I also provide training for teachers in TESOL, EAL and Intercultural Communication.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I can help prepare students for IELTS or Cambridge Proficiency exams.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

Mostly, if I'm providing feedback on academic writing, students will email me their work and I'll use Track Changes in Word to comment and return via email. If you would like a face-to-face session, this can be facilitated through Skype or FaceTime.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

I offer a supportive and encouraging approach, helping you to build your confidence. My commitment to learner autonomy means that you'll develop knowledge and skills that you can apply to your future learning.
