About John
I am a passionate, reflective teacher with experience teaching Key Stages 1-4, including children and young people with ASD, ADHD, PDA, and sensory processing difficulties.
I believe in nurturing aspirations and creating opportunities for pupils to achieve. Quality teaching comes from a deep understanding of each child, and there should be a golden thread between the aspirations of the child, the barriers to their learning, the proposed outcomes for that child, and the provisions offered by the school.

Learning should be fun. Very little can be accomplished if the child does not enjoy their lessons. Tutoring lessons should be tailored to the learner, taking account not only of their knowledge and learning style, but also their personality. I like to use a mix of activities and resources to help keep things engaging and interesting (and fun!). As a writer myself, I have a deep love of reading and writing, and I love to share that passion! In the past, I have created videos for my students to encourage them to try writing, enlisting the help of a host of other authors from around the world to share their thoughts. The attached video shows you what I mean!
I have experience with one-to-one and small-group tuition with Year 5&6 children to help bridge learning gaps and to support students in preparation for their SATs. In the past, I have been English Lead in a school, so I have experience delivering targeted literacy and reading comprehension interventions. I am trained in Talk for Reading and SoundsWrite.
