James Freyne is an experienced design educator and real estate professional with a passion for purposeful, functional, and aesthetic design. He holds a degree in Materials Engineering from the University of Limerick and a master's in real estate Valuation from Heriot-Watt University (RICS accredited). Having lived in Dubai for over 15 years, James brings a wealth of international experience, blending architectural design with authentic market insights. The Junior Architect Program is designed for students aged 13 to 17 who want to explore architecture, engineering, or real estate in a practical, real-world context. Lessons are project based and interactive, combining structured guidance with hands-on work in SketchUp and constructive feedback.
The program is organised into grade level projects, with each project requiring approximately 10 hours of work. Lessons are one hour each, allowing students to progress steadily while developing skills in research, planning, sketching, digital modelling, and presentation. Projects range from tiny homes and dream villas to schools and commercial buildings, all designed within realistic constraints such as site area, orientation, available materials, and budget, while following inclusive and universal design principles.
Students may also request tailored support for school coursework, assignments, or upcoming assessments, ensuring lessons are relevant to their academic goals. Each session builds critical thinking, problem solving, and iterative design skills, equipping students to tackle design challenges with creativity, strategy, and confidence.
