About Hechavarria
Noedy Hechavarría Duharte is a Cuban-Canadian saxophonist and composer based in Malmö, Sweden, whose music blends contemporary jazz with the rhythmic richness of Afro-Cuban and Latin traditions. Trained in Havana, Montreal, New York, and Barcelona with world-renowned artists such as Danilo Pérez, Chad Lefkowitz-Brown, and Aruán Ortiz, he has performed alongside international musicians including John Pizzarelli, Linda May Han Oh, and Fabian Almazán. Over the past four years, Noedy has focused on his own musical project, touring Canada, the United States, and Europe while completing a master’s degree in jazz at Laval University. As a performer, composer, and educator, he creates harmonically rich, rhythmically dynamic music and guides students in developing their own voice, fostering creativity, improvisation, and a deep connection to the roots of jazz and Afro-Cuban music.

Noedy Hechavarría Duharte is a Cuban saxophonist and composer with over fifteen years of experience as a performer and teacher. He describes himself as a lifelong student, constantly exploring creativity and improvisation, drawing on the foundations of the African American jazz tradition and his Afro-Cuban roots.
His classes are tailored to each student’s individual needs, helping them develop their own musical voice in a fun and supportive environment. Lessons combine saxophone technique, improvisation, repertoire, and music theory, all grounded in the fundamentals of jazz. Noedy believes that teaching is a dynamic process of sharing, receiving, reaffirming, and renewing knowledge, bringing his professional experience as a bandleader and composer to every lesson.
Teaching Approach and Typical Lesson Structure:
Each lesson begins with warm-ups and technique exercises, including breathing, scales, transcription and transposition, and the analysis of solos by jazz masters to build a solid foundation. Next, students practice repertoire, exploring jazz standards, Afro-Cuban pieces, and songs selected by the student. Improvisation exercises focus on developing personal expression, phrasing, articulation, and creativity. Classes also include theory and ear training, covering harmony, rhythm, and the language of jazz. Finally, progress is reviewed, and goals are set for the next lesson, ensuring a clear path toward continuous improvement.
These lessons are suitable for musicians of all levels, from beginners building a solid foundation to advanced students refining improvisation, composition, and performance skills. Students who wish to focus solely on saxophone technique without improvisation are also welcome. Additionally, these courses are designed for musicians of other instruments who wish to explore improvisation and develop their musicality and individual voice.
