About Joan
"Music notation is rarely the most important element when you first sit down at the keyboard. Despite my formal training with an Artist Diploma in Music Performance from Singapore Management University, I find that intuition often precedes complex theory.
Over 13 years of teaching, I have observed that disciplined practice habits unlock deeper musical understanding than raw talent alone. My method integrates jazz improvisation, sight playing, and memorization techniques into daily routines.
We also refine sight transposition, classical repertoire, pop and contemporary styles, and grade exam prep for ABRSM and Trinity boards. I emphasize dynamics and expression alongside rhythm and timing to build a sturdy technical base. My approach focuses on steady, methodical development that respects your personal pace."
