About Meg
I trained for six years at the Purcell School for Young Musicians, where I studied music intensively and developed a strong, well-rounded foundation. Alongside this, I have performed professionally across London, leading my own trios and quartets in a range of venues, including Pizza Express Soho, Jazz Cafe, and Green Note Camden.
I later moved to New York City, where I studied at the Tribeca Jazz Institute and immersed myself in the jazz scene. During this time, I gained valuable real-world experience performing in respected venues such as Smalls Jazz Club, Five Spot, and The Roxy Hotel.
My aim as a teacher is to pass on not only technical skill, but also a genuine passion for music. I help students build a strong connection to their instrument and develop the confidence to express themselves fully.
In lessons, I provide the tools needed to play with freedom and intention, so you can communicate exactly how you feel through your playing at any level. My approach prioritises creativity and enjoyment. If something feels repetitive or frustrating, we find new ways to approach it and keep the process engaging.
I support students in developing their own voice, rather than simply following rigid rules.

My teaching focuses on building strong technical foundations while developing musicality and four-limb independence.
I work through recognised drum method books, including Wilcoxon, Syncopation, and The Art of Bop Drumming, using them as practical exercises to strengthen control, coordination, and feel.
Alongside this, I place a strong emphasis on learning by ear, helping students develop the ability to listen, interpret, and play music naturally. Students will also learn to read drum notation and understand rhythm in a clear, practical way. I encourage students to sing what they play - if you can hear it, you can play it.
A key part of my approach is learning directly from records. This allows students to pick up real grooves, styles, and feel across genres that genuinely interest them.
