About Giacomo

I am Giacomo Chelli, currently studying English lit. and Phil. at the University of Edinburgh. Studying in the UK has been my dream for quite some time, and I had to stress quite a bit to get to visit this beautiful country.

However, I miss my native language and my country's rich literature. And since I have spent many years in the Italian education system, where having extremely solid writing skills, grammar and rhetoric skills is considered the bare minimum required to pass any class, I am confident in my ability to help English-speaking students with any difficulty they might encounter when studying my language.

To further develop my writing skills in my native language I also attended a creative writing course at the Belleville Creative Writing School

My lessons will be focused around both exercise and theory. In particular, I aim to analyse how the student responds to different learning techniques to better guide his learning journey.
My lessons can therefore be divided into 2 categories: grammar-focused and exercise-focused. Both should follow this structure:

Average lesson (60 min):

-2-5 minutes at the beginning of each lesson given as a buffer to deal with delays of any kind

-5 minutes of feedback from the student on how the work has gone so far, or on any difficulties he might have encountered in previous lessons, or on his ability to comply with the programme.

-35/40 minutes of theory, OR

-35/40 minutes dedicated to learning material (mind maps for comprehension, flashcards to help memorisation, analysis of literary excerpts, etc.)

-10 minutes at the end to account for delays, questions, etc.

N.B.: The practical lesson should constitute roughly 50% of the student's exercising time. During the lesson, the student should make all his "learning tools" (e.g., mind maps) from scratch. These will then be used for 2 to 10 minutes (roughly) EVERY DAY to absorb notions and concepts faster.
