About Alina

In short: I've been teaching online and offline since 2013, created my own advanced English course, a vocabulary workbook and a language learning blog. I've helped my students gain confidence in speaking and expressing themselves in English, talk even if they lack or can't remember some words, improve their understanding of native speakers and original content in English, incorporate some fun English-learning activities into their daily lives and even get better jobs that required speaking English. In detail: I love teaching and learning! I'm interested in the most effective techniques and tools that can help us make learning easier. I've made hundreds of exercises and entertaining learning materials for my students. The truth is, the traditional methods used in schools are just ineffective for the majority of students, that's why if you think you can't improve, it's probably because you've been taught in the most boring ways that don't work. You might be great at tests, but what about talking to a real person? It's not your fault. You've been taught how to do exercises, not how to communicate. If you want to check out my free advanced English course, search for Green Zebra English Course (they don't allow links here; the domain is 'club' - weird, I know :) If you want to check out my vocabulary workbook, search for Advanced Vocabulary Workbook: Fun lessons and effective exercises to learn over 280 real-life expressions. It that can be used as an addition to my free course as well as a separate resource. If you want to check out my blog about learning English, search for green zebra medium.

In short: If your level is officially B2 or C1 (upper intermediate or advanced), but in reality you can't speak English or are too shy to do it, I'll help you learn real-life vocabulary and start speaking with confidence. I offer: - individual classes or small groups up to 3 people once a week - brain-friendly learning - using scientific knowledge about your brain and teaching techniques to make learning more natural, fun and effective - blended learning - you study on your own during the week (using the materials from my free course) and we meet once a week in our virtual classroom to practise what you've learned - multi-sensory learning - using materials that engage different senses making learning more effective - you speak most of the time practising this most important skill, and I create conditions for that to happen - engaging and fun activities and pleasant atmosphere during the lessons - support every step of the way - contact me with any questions and struggles you have, I'm here for you - Advanced English Vocabulary Workbook as an eBook for free for each student. In detail: Most of my students are people whose level is officially quite high, but in reality, they have trouble speaking and expressing themselves in English. They are often shy when it comes to speaking and say some version of the following, "I understand almost everything that I hear or read, but I just can't talk." Why? Because speaking is a skill that has to be practised, like any other. Just like you can't become a good driver without getting behind the wheel and hitting the road, you can't become a confident speaker without doing it. And yet, what were most of your English lessons like? You read and you listened and you did grammar exercises (that's why you are much better at those things). You spoke very little, so you can't do it now. During our lessons, we are going to smash this barrier and get you talking. In the meantime, you'll learn tons of real-life advanced vocabulary, idioms, slang expressions and phrasal verbs, improve your listening comprehension skills (even if they are good, you can always do better, especially when it comes to original native content) and build that confidence that comes from knowing that you are able to discuss anything with anyone even if you don't know all the words. How? With the help of blended learning - the most effective technique according to research. Blended learning means that you'll study on your own during the week using the materials from my course and Advanced English Vocabulary Workbook (that you'll get for free if you become my student), and we'll meet once a week to practise what you've learned and strengthen your knowledge. You'll watch original videos in English and work with the vocabulary from them with the help of the workbook and interactive flashcards prepared by me. There will be additional tasks, like reading articles and solving riddles, so that you can always be in contact with English. During our lessons, we'll discuss the videos and work with various interactive materials that will ensure that you'll say the words you've been learning at home. You will be talking most of the time! And even if we have some other language in common, we'll only use English. If that seems impossible, you'll see that it is. All my students do that. The visual materials, engaging tasks and the structure of the lessons themselves will ensure it. Yes, it means that you'll have to work quite a lot on your own, but firstly, it's the only way to actually improve your speaking skills, and secondly, it will be fun! Of course, we could meet once a week for a conversation without you having to do anything to prepare, but that wouldn't help you improve your English, and I'm not comfortable taking your money for nothing. *Please note that I don't live in London. I'm a nomad, so there is no city or country where I constantly live. It was a mistake during registration, but I figured it didn't really matter since I only offer online lessons.
