About Martin
I’m a British-Canadian UX/UI and Graphic Designer with many years of professional, hands-on experience designing for real businesses, real users, and real constraints. I’ve worked across agency, corporate, and public-sector environments, creating everything from e-commerce websites to digital products used at scale. This background allows me to teach design from a practical, industry-focused perspective, not just theory or trends.
I approach teaching with clarity, patience, and professionalism. Design can feel overwhelming at first, so I break complex concepts into simple, logical steps and explain the why behind every decision. My goal is to help students build confidence, develop strong fundamentals, and understand how designers actually think and work in professional settings.
Whether you’re a complete beginner, a student, or someone transitioning into design, I create a supportive learning environment where questions are encouraged and progress is measurable. My sessions are structured, practical, and tailored to how you learn. I teach design by focusing on fundamentals first, why something works before how to execute it, so you build real understanding, not just software knowledge. I use real-world examples from professional projects to bridge the gap between theory and industry expectations.
A typical lesson starts with a clear objective, followed by guided walkthroughs, hands-on exercises, and discussion. We’ll review examples together, apply concepts in real time (often directly in Figma, Illustrator, Photoshop), and finish with actionable feedback and next steps. Lessons can be skill-focused (e.g. wireframing, prototypes, user personas etc), project-based (designing a screen or feature), or portfolio-driven.
What sets me apart is my industry-first mindset. I try not to teach design in isolation, I teach how design is actually used in agencies, product teams, and client work. I give honest, constructive feedback, explain design decisions clearly, and help you think like a designer rather than follow templates or trends.
