About Isla

Hello! I’m a gap-year student preparing to study medicine next year, offering tutoring in GCSE biology, chemistry, physics and geography. I also previously received an offer from the University of Cambridge to study Geography, which I ultimately decided not to take up. 9-9-9 in AQA Triple Higher Science | 9 in Eduqas B Geography | A*A*A in A-level biology, geography and chemistry.
I believe learning should go beyond simply preparing for exams, with a focus on developing a genuine understanding and wider knowledge of the subject. Studying can be incredibly rewarding, especially when you see your hard work translate into success!

My approach to tutoring and performing well in an exam is a strategic one. I don't just want to teach you more content — I want to teach you how to use it. Of course, we'll work on understanding difficult concepts, remembering key information and filling gaps in your knowledge. However, I think one of the most important skills for GCSE exams is being able to recognise what a question is actually asking you to do and therefore my lessons focus heavily on:

Synoptic links — connecting ideas across different topics rather than treating every topic as separate
Exam technique — understanding how to approach different question types and what examiners are looking for
Applying knowledge — learning how to use what you know in unfamiliar contexts
High-yield revision — prioritising the topics and skills that can make the biggest difference to your marks
Memory techniques — developing effective ways to retain the information you actually need

I also want to emphasise that more knowledge doesn't always mean more marks. Being able to make a few strong, relevant connections between concepts and apply them precisely can be much more valuable than simply trying to memorise endless amounts of information.

My sessions are completely tailored to you - if there's one particular topic you're struggling with, we can focus entirely on that — whether it's genetics, electrolysis, rates of reaction, energy, ecosystems, tectonic hazards, rivers or anything else on your course.
Alternatively, if you feel like you don't know where to start, I can take a more holistic approach: identify your weaker areas, prioritise the highest-yield topics and build a structured plan around your exam.

I'm happy to teach Foundation or Higher Tier Science, as well as Triple Science, adapting lessons to your current level and goals.
