About Ankit

Hi, I'm Ankit — a BITS Pilani (Electrical & Electronics, Hons.) engineer and IIM Lucknow MBA graduate, currently working as Quant & DI-LR Faculty at IMS India, Bangalore, teaching competitive exam mathematics and analytical reasoning.

My engineering background from BITS Pilani gave me a rigorous foundation in mathematics, and my current role as a competitive exam faculty has sharpened my ability to break down complex quantitative problems into clear, step-by-step concepts for students.

I've delivered 250+ 1:1 problem-solving sessions and mentored students through structured, exam-focused preparation.

Math came naturally to me — enough to choose Electrical Engineering at BITS Pilani. Today I teach Quant full-time for competitive exams, and I've learned most students don't struggle with math itself — they struggle with how it's taught.

My classes build the "why" behind every concept, not just the steps. Each session moves from a quick concept walkthrough to guided problem-solving, then independent practice and previous year JEE questions to build real exam temperament. I track each student's weak spots and shape the next class around them.

I teach Class 11 and 12 students preparing for JEE Main & Advanced.

My goal: help you enjoy solving a tough problem, not just survive it.

  • Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

Mathematics has always felt less like a subject and more like a puzzle to me. My interest deepened during my JEE preparation, where I had to go beyond textbook formulas and really understand why things work — not just how to apply them. Topics like Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus, and Vectors & 3D became areas I genuinely enjoyed, because I had to build my concepts up brick by brick through failure and repetition. I remember trying solving questions using multiple approaches which helped me develop the strategy on the best approach to take while problem solving. That process taught me something I still carry into teaching today: math isn't about natural talent, it's about rigor, patience, and practicing the right way.
  • What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

The love for the subject is the biggest motivation I have for this role. I didn't have it all figured out from day one — I made plenty of mistakes along the way, especially during my JEE prep, and had to learn concepts the hard way through failure and repetition. A lot of students fear Maths because of the lack of understanding about the subject. To me Maths is a language and a tool to understand real life problems and situations. For someone who has built this approach on his own. It keeps me motivated and I wish to share this with others.
  • How does your work help society?

Math is often the subject students fear most, and that fear can quietly shape which careers or opportunities they even consider for themselves. By helping students build genuine confidence and strong fundamentals in math, I'm not just helping them pass an exam — I'm helping remove a barrier that might otherwise hold them back from pursuing engineering, competitive exams, or any quant-heavy field they're capable of excelling in. A student who overcomes their fear of math often ends up more confident in every other area too.
  • If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

Rahul Dravid. What stands out to me about him isn't flashy talent — it's grit, resilience, and focus. He built his game through relentless practice and consistency rather than shortcuts, and he stayed composed under pressure, match after match. That's exactly the mindset I try to bring to teaching math: there's no shortcut to mastery, just consistent effort, staying calm under exam pressure, and trusting the process even when progress feels slow.
  • Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

Outside teaching, I'm usually planning my next trek or trip — there's something about being out in the mountains that resets my mind completely. I also love traveling more broadly, exploring new places and cultures, and I'm an avid reader in my downtime. I think all three feed back into my teaching in some way — treks and travel teach patience and problem-solving in the moment, and reading keeps me curious, which I try to pass on to my students too.
  • Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

During my own JEE preparation, I remember completely botching a mock test on Calculus — a topic I thought I'd mastered. Instead of getting discouraged, I went back, broke the topic down from scratch, and drilled it with hundreds of practice problems until it clicked. That single failure taught me more about learning than any of my successes did, and it's a story I now share with my students whenever they're frustrated after a bad test. I tell them: a bad test isn't proof you can't do it, it's just data telling you exactly where to focus next.
