About Hudson
Piano is an incredibly versatile instrument, and my goal as a teacher is to help students tap into its full range—technical, emotional, and creative. I teach with a focus on whole musicianship, meaning students learn more than just how to play pieces: they learn how to think musically, feel confidently, and grow independently. My curriculum includes note reading, rhythmic fluency, ear training, and proper technique, but I also place strong emphasis on creativity through improvisation, composition, and musical analysis. We often explore how different interpretations of a piece can create entirely different emotional effects, which helps students build critical listening skills and musical identity. For young students, I use playful exercises and games to introduce complex concepts in an intuitive way; for older learners, I dive deeper into theory, style, and historical context. A particularly inspiring moment for me was helping an adult student return to the piano after a 20-year break—together, we built a repertoire that honored their love for jazz and film music, reigniting their passion and expanding their skillset. I provide consistent feedback, customized practice plans, and ongoing encouragement to make sure each student feels supported every step of the way. I believe that music should never feel out of reach; with the right tools, attitude, and guidance, every student can experience the piano as a source of pride, passion, and possibility.

In teaching piano, I prioritize creating a nurturing and engaging learning environment where students feel inspired to explore and develop their musical potential. I believe that building a strong technical foundation—covering posture, hand technique, finger strength, and rhythm—is essential, but it is equally important to cultivate musical expression, creativity, and joy. I personalize lessons to suit the student’s age, experience, and musical preferences, ensuring that repertoire and exercises resonate with their interests.
Theory and sight-reading are introduced naturally through playing, making learning both meaningful and accessible. I encourage improvisation and composition as tools for creative growth and deeper musical understanding. Using technology like recording software and apps for ear training, I help students monitor progress and stay motivated. I emphasize goal-setting and reflective practice as key components of long-term development.
One memorable experience was guiding a student through preparing for a recital piece that challenged their technical and emotional skills, resulting in a proud and confident performance. My mission is to empower students to develop technical mastery, artistic sensitivity, and a lifelong love for music through the piano.
