About Kayla

About Me I am an honors high school senior with a strong interest in reading and writing. I have experience with children who have ADHD and autism, and I am familiar with the strategies that can help support their learning. I have also tutored my brother, who has ADHD. I have worked at summer camps with children ages 6-13. Additionally, I am proficient in math and am comfortable teaching it to others. My goal is for your child to possess a deep understanding of the subject material. My goal is for your child to eventually exceed their need for a tutor.

About the lesson

This is what a lesson with me will look like! Beforehand - Feel free to send me any materials or goals ahead of time so I can strategize the best way to teach the lesson. During the lesson: 1. The lesson will start with discussing the goals of the session. (The assignment, the different concepts that are going to be understood) 2. If he/she is working on reading, we’ll go through the passage together, asking them questions about vocabulary, key ideas, and details. At the end of reading I will ask them to summarize the passage via writing or speech. (whatever fits their needs better) 3. If it’s a worksheet, I’ll walk them through an example problem first, breaking it down step-by-step. After we work through the example, I will help your child apply what they learned. Only intervening when necessary. Confidence is important! 4. At the end of the lesson we will review the things he/she struggled most with. Targeted Review: At the end of each session, we’ll revisit the areas where they struggled the most, reinforcing key concepts and making sure they fully understand before moving on. Progress Updates: After every lesson, I’ll send you a quick update on what was covered, what went well, and areas where we’ll focus next time. I’m excited to help your child grow and succeed in their school work!
