About Ria

I am a second-year medical student with a background in Honors Integrative Physiology, having completed three undergraduate research projects, including an Honors thesis. Alongside my academic training, I have taught mathematics up to first-year calculus, where I have consistently seen students make rapid progress and gain confidence in their abilities. I strongly believe that success comes from mastering core concepts first, then working through challenging ideas and practice questions together. My teaching approach focuses on building deep understanding rather than rote memorization, empowering students to think independently, explain concepts clearly to their peers, and approach exams with confidence. My goal is not just to help you succeed in your courses, but to help you reach a level of understanding where you can apply, adapt, and teach these concepts yourself, setting you up for long-term academic and professional success.

My name is Ria, and I am a second-year medical student with a strong passion for science and research. I have taken the MCAT twice and bring four years of tutoring experience, during which I’ve developed a deep appreciation for teaching and mentoring students in challenging subjects. I believe the most effective way to build lasting understanding is by strengthening core fundamental concepts and then applying them through difficult, high-yield questions. Developing confidence in approaching and answering complex problems is what allows students to truly excel in their studies and leads to measurable, quantifiable improvement in performance. My goal is to help students not only succeed academically, but to gain the confidence and conceptual clarity needed to approach new material independently and perform at a consistently high level.

  • When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?

My interest in medicine began during my undergraduate studies in the basic sciences. While studying, I discovered how much I enjoyed understanding how the body works. Tutoring at Kumon helped me realize how fulfilling it is to teach and support others in their learning. This combination of science and service led me to pursue medicine.
  • What makes you passionate about your subject?

Medicine is the perfect combination of science and helping people. I love the challenge of solving complex problems and the opportunity to make a difference in someone's life, whether that's by helping a student grasp a difficult concept or improving patient care in the future.
  • . What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?

I love tutoring because it's so rewarding to see students grow in confidence and ability. My background in medical studies and a strong foundation in the basic sciences give me the expertise to teach effectively. Superprof makes it easy to connect with students who need support, and I'm passionate about making learning accessible and engaging for them.
  • Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, one of my toxicology professors is the reason I'm in medical school today. Their passion for teaching and ability to simplify complex ideas inspired me to pursue medicine and bring the same dedication to my own teaching.
  • What are your keys to success?

My keys to success are hard work and focusing on accomplishing little things every day. Staying consistent and breaking down big goals into small, manageable steps has always been my approach. It helps me stay motivated and make steady progress.
