About Jordan
I am a history student at Sinclair Community College and am deeply passionate and committed to helping others become engaged with history. I have been in the shoes of many of the people I wish to help and empathize with those who might look at what is being taught as dry or outdated, and it's my goal to make studying history not seem like a chore while getting to them critically engage with what they are studying. My only ambition is to make history something everyone can understand regardless of academic prestige or access to college courses.

My teaching method is all about meeting the needs of students on their own terms. Some people struggle with the dense, sometimes inaccessible language academics use when talking about the past and it's my belief that in order to foster greater historical literacy we need to start with people who haven't been exposed to decades of economic theory or political philosophy.
A typical lesson plan for me involves using historical media we consume as a starting point. I find people are more engaged with history when they are entertained by it. From that point, the goal is to dissect it for any inaccuracies by studying primary sources and other historical sources and documents. I of course am always there to lend a hand and steer people in the right direction. Once that's done I ask people to begin examining what they watched/read/listened to for the themes, then the narratives or agendas. History is about more than merely studying the past, it often involves dispelling old agendas from that past, and trying to construct new ones about how the world truly was and is. By helping students engage with history and media this way, they are being trained to critically think about historical narratives. Of course, I am always available to directly assist with assignments in any way I possibly can.
What sets me apart as a tutor is that I want to get people truly interested in studying history and excited about what they might learn, not just cram for an exam using information they might forget as soon as it's no longer needed.
My lessons can be used for any grade level or degree but high schoolers and early college students taking a relevant history or social sciences courses will probably get the most out of it, as there is a level of maturity needed when studying history to accept that it isn't always fun, and discussing historical events such as atrocities or wars and the like require. That being said, I save the more heavy stuff for people I know can handle it, and with younger students, focus on helping them learn what history is.
