About Nathania
I am a history student going into my third and final year at the University of Cambridge. I have been tutoring and mentoring formally for around 3 years, however have been helping younger members of my extended family and friends for much longer. The subjects I tutor in are History, English, Philosophy, Ethics and Religious Studies. Typically, I've been enlisted for more general tutoring, but my most recent student was a GCSE student which I helped solely with History and English. This student was struggling to reach a pass level and has recently been awarded a B level in his coursework which is fantastic. Usually, I tutor disadvantaged students, and have been mentoring numerous sixth form students for the past 2 years hoping to apply to university - all 5 of my mentees have Russell group offers, 2 of which were Oxbridge.

My teaching method consists of starting by asking the student to detail topics and area they particularly need assistance with, for us to work through over an extended period. Establishing what type of learner the student is is key for effective teaching and my style varies student to student. One of my previous students was a visual learner like myself, so I always made sure that essay plans and other working pieces were colourful and each paragraph /point was colour coordinated. Typically, myself and the student in discussions about the relevant topics, with question and answer styled teaching to really focus on sections that the student struggles with, followed by passage /source study and analysis, and essay style questions on which the student will complete a plan with myself. This is of course flexible - if the student has homework for example that they need assistance with, I do my upmost to accommodate as I feel that student determined structures work best for learning.
