About Victor
I have been teaching history for over 30 years at the university level, especially fresh arrivals from high school, so I have a good understanding of what students have learned or need to know to succeed. Since 2014 I have been a rater for the AP European history exam, where I have gained a solid understanding of what essay tactics work and what do not. In addition to my teaching I am a published expert on nationalism and democratization in 19th Century Europe based on primary sources in German, Polish, and Ukrainian.

One-on-one and small group preferred. Socratic or seminar discussion method based on material. Lessons start with questions about factual aspects of the material to assess understanding. Once basic understanding is clear, a shift is made to analysis and comparison, perhaps a short writing assignment. Introduction and discussion of new material. In an era where history is less relevant than STEM, I bring a commitment to history as a discipline that develops empathy and understanding of people different from ourselves. Willing to work with all levels, but particularly eager to work with high school students and college students who are struggling. Also happy to share my understanding of the AP, especially with help on DBQ and FRQs.
