About Qasid
As soon as I completed my A-levels from Tiffin grammar school in London, at age of 18, I took a gap year teaching maths as a school teacher in Gambia. Fifteen years later, I have a first class degree in Mechanical Engineering, a PhD in Thermodynamics from the University of Sheffield, I have led the development of cutting edge technologies for multinational companies and still there’s nothing I enjoy more in my life than teaching children maths. I am motivated to teach children because I thoroughly enjoy seeing the world through the eyes of my students and working with them through their challenges to see their success. When I am teaching, I am completely immersed in this challenge. Throughout my career I have been teaching children maths as a private tutor and whenever I had the opportunity I have also taught in schools. From my experience teaching hundreds of students, thousands of hours of maths from 7 through to 11+, GCSEs and A-Levels; I’ve developed a system for teaching maths to make sure my students get the top grades in their exams. I am continuously updating my knowledge of the best methods for learning and teaching maths. I rigorously review my teaching methods to ensure they are aligned with the most robust proven effective methods. For example, I avoid lavishing under-performing students with excessive, generic praise because this has been proven to be counterproductive both for motivation and learning effectiveness. In line with best teaching practice, I only give genuine praise when it is deserved, exclusively to reward effort and progress related to specific tasks. My students appreciate this challenging approach, they are motivated to meet their specific targets and feel very satisfied when they make it. I have worked with the full range of students from Special Education Needs (SEN) struggling with confidence to get started through to stretching high achieving students in a competitive environment to successfully obtain scholarships and excel at the top schools in the country. We've known Qasid as a tutor and a friend for a few years, and we're extremely pleased with the academic mentorship he's provided to our children over this period. Both of our sons received offers to sought-after secondary schools through 13+ and 11+ exams, respectively.
Every case is individual, and even within the same family children develop academically at a different pace. Qasid is a natural born teacher and very attentive to detail - he's therefore capable to adjust his teaching style to a child's particular needs. Moreover, Qasid managed to build rapport with our children from the very beginning. Striking the right balance between encouraging children to focus and using his sense of humour and playful puns, he turned lessons into challenging yet entertaining intellectual exercises.
Qasid is diligent, always on time and ready to offer genuine advice to parents about children's academic progress. Qasid is a trained engineer and an accomplished scientist, so he often helped our children with science-related disciplines, such as physics and chemistry.Qasid is an excellent maths tutor. My daughter had learning blocks and lacked confidence in her maths skills. With his positive attitude and “fun” approach (lots of number games and challenges) to mathematics, my daughter has gained confidence and a true enjoyment of the subject. He is able to hold her attention for the entire duration and she has improved in mental maths, problem solving and all the other areas required for the 11+ and beyond.
