About Neil
I have a BA Hons and Masters in graphic design, along with a postgraduate teaching degree. I've been teaching graphic design for over 20 years and have also written undergraduate degree programs in graphic design and visual communication. I have taught over 1,000 students in Sydney and London, with several of them winning prestigious design prizes and many more gaining employment at top design studios around the world.

I currently work as a freelance designer on a wide variety of projects from branding and website development to online education and video production. My graphic design lessons are primarily geared towards supporting university design students, but I am equally happy to teach high school students and anyone looking to build a design portfolio. My lessons are structured around the student's needs, finding out what they want immediate help with and then supporting them with areas of design they find challenging. We'll explore many aspects of graphic design: design fundamentals, the design process, working with software, research methods, generating ideas, typography, grids, layout, colour, design development, final presentation, and inspirational examples. Depending on the student's needs, we can work through design briefs, or I can also set exercises designed to develop specific areas that help the student gain a better understanding of an aspect of graphic design. I am very patient, a good listener, and love teaching graphic design.

Perfect! Neil was actually too busy to take me on but was very helpful in putting me in contact with another great Tutor who I will be using again.
Perfect! Neil was very attentive and very quick in understanding what I was trying to achieve - depicting illustrations to communicate my ideas. He went the extra mile to identify what I really needed and brought up a variety of references to spark my inspiration.
