About Graeme
Hello! I'm Graeme Winder, a passionate piano teacher with over 23 years of experience in music education. My love for music began when I was very young, and it's been the driving force behind my lifelong dedication to teaching and sharing the joy of music with others.
Throughout my career, I've developed a new, innovative approach to piano teaching that combines traditional methods with modern techniques to keep lessons engaging, fun, and effective. My unique teaching style integrates foundational skills with creativity, ensuring that students not only learn to play but also understand and feel the music they create.

I believe that learning piano should be a journey of discovery, creativity, and joy. My teaching method is rooted in the Music Fluency Pathway, which blends foundational skills with creative expression. I emphasize a well-rounded education that includes reading music, understanding theory, and developing technique while also encouraging improvisation and playing by ear.
A typical lesson with me is structured to balance three core elements:
Foundational Skills: We begin with warm-up exercises and technical drills to build finger strength, agility, and proper hand posture. This includes scales, arpeggios, and sight-reading practice to improve overall fluency on the keyboard.
Creativity and Exploration: The middle portion of the lesson focuses on creativity. This might involve improvisation exercises, exploring different genres and styles, or composing short pieces. I encourage students to express themselves musically and develop a personal connection to the instrument.
Repertoire and Song Learning: The lesson ends with learning and practicing songs that the student enjoys. By incorporating pieces they love, I keep the learning experience engaging and relevant, fostering a lifelong love for music.
