About George
I am a highly experienced teacher and private tutor, with over ten years' experience, teaching in one-to-one, small group and classroom settings. I have taught hundreds of students at all levels, including primary, Key Stage 3, GCSE, A-level and adult learners. My teaching has been rated as Outstanding (the highest rating achievable) by Ofsted (the UK government’s Office for Standards in Education). Since graduating from the University of Cambridge in 2012, I have worked exclusively in teaching. As well as working as a private tutor, I have also been a school teacher and I have taught on numerous revision courses, Saturday schools and summer schools. Because tutoring is my main job, rather than something I do on the side, I am able to give my full attention and commitment to my students. When I am not teaching, I spend time planning lessons, developing resources that are tailored to my students’ needs, and studying educational research to ensure that I am always using the most effective teaching methods available. Through thousands of hours of teaching I have developed a highly effective teaching style. For me, teaching is about much more than just making sure that the student learns the content. Through my lessons, I help my students to develop the skills and qualities that they need to be effective learners in the future. A big part of what I do is building my students’ confidence. I believe that a lack of confidence underlies many issues that students have with learning, and I have found that as my students gain confidence they become more motivated and self-directed and, most importantly, they start enjoying learning (even subjects that they thought they would always hate). Another focus of my lessons is teaching my students how to study. I find that many of my students have never been taught how to learn effectively on their own. By teaching them the best techniques for teaching themselves, I ensure that they are getting the most out of all of their study time, not just the time they spend with me. With every new student, I always start by getting to know them – what they like and don’t like about the subject, which parts they already understand and which parts they don’t and what they want to get from the lessons. Then I design lessons that are suited to them. By starting from the right place for that student, and building their knowledge up from there, I find that all of my students are able to make rapid progress – even those students who have struggled greatly with the subject in the past. I have extensive experience working with students who have specific learning difficulties, such as dyspraxia, dyslexia, ADHD and autism. With these students, I find that confidence building is often especially important, since they tend to underestimate what they are capable of. Part of this is helping them to develop methods of study that suit them. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss any specific needs. I teach Biology, Chemistry and Maths up to A Level, and Physics up to GCSE.

With every new student I always start by getting to know them and finding out what their specific learning needs are. I work together with the student to identify the gaps in their knowledge, or the skills that they need to work on, and then we build up from there.

I used to work with George, we were both teachers at a sixth form college. George was already a fantastic teacher, his students made excellent progress, he was very supportive and passionate and always fun to be around and learn from
We could not have been happier with George - he is a great tutor, excellent at communication and organisation and particularly brilliant at understanding neurodivergence. He really helped my daughter and was endlessly patient with her ADHD, working very hard to find strategies that would support her. We would recommend him without hesitation, ten out of ten!
George has been tutoring our daughter, who is in year 10, for 3 months. We have found George to be very professional and reliable. Our daughter is very happy with his teaching methods and now feels more confident in her maths class as a result of George’s help. At the end of every class, George gives us feedback on how our daughter is progressing. George is a great tutor and we highly recommend him.
HelenaHaving taught alongside George for many years, I can confidently say he is an exceptional tutor. He has a real talent for breaking down complex topics into clear, manageable steps, and his thoughtful learning strategies help students build strong, lasting understanding. His depth of knowledge and ability to communicate it effectively make him an outstanding tutor who I’d happily recommend to any prospective student.
George has worked with us seasonally at Kensington Park School for over 7 years now. His exam preparation sessions during our Easter Revision courses are always very well recieved, with students giving glowing feedback and often choosing to book extra sessions with him as they have found it so useful. They particularly highlight his subject knowledge, his likeability and his ability to help them improve on difficult exam questions as strengths.
On top of this, George has also created a popular Medicine summer course which we invite him back to deliver each year with great success.Very knowledgeable, I would not have received the GCSE marks I did without George’s help.
I didn’t understand maths or chemistry before George, I could truly ask him anything and leave with a new genuine understanding. Would recommend to anyone!
George has been teaching me for almost a year now. He is patient, structured and understanding as a teacher! I always feel encouraged by him no matter how much I struggle, and feel like i've made great progress. He always makes me feel like 'we're in this together'
I have known George throughout his tutoring career. As a fellow science teacher, I highly recommend his teaching style and subject knowledge. He is creative, personable, dedicated and consistently receives very positive feedback from his tutees.
George has been so kind, helpful and really helped my daughter with her GCSE exams.
Nothing was ever too much trouble and he explained brilliantly any areas that needed improvement.
George taught my daughter Physics, to start with but also was a great help with Chemistry and Maths.
His style is methodical, well paced and calm.
I only wish we had started the tutoring earlier, as it gave my daughter such a boost.
I have known George for many years as a friend and would have no hesitation in recommending him as a tutor. My daughter has benefited hugely from tutoring with George. He is extremely clear patient and knowledgeable, both with science and maths.
George was recommended to us by a neighbour , and he proved to be invaluable.
I would have no hesitation in recommending George.Great communication and pace when working through difficult topics, gave me homework which really adds value to the sessions and helped me push my grades right up!! Thanks George
I can't recommend George highly enough as a tutor. George is that rare person who not only knows his subjects in depth but has the ability to convey that knowledge in a fashion which can be absorbed and understood by the student. In addition to imparting subject matter, his teaching incorporates study methods, such as how to organise information and develop productive study methods. My children have learned important lessons on how to study from George that have been applied to other subjects as well.
When George taught my son Chemistry, he went from confusion to actually liking the subject (resulting in an A* in his GCSE -- a previously unthinkable grade). George is now tutoring my daughter in Chemistry and Physics and, as with her brother, her frustrations have decreased and scores increased. I have recommended George to others whose children were struggling and they experienced similar success.George is a wonderful teacher who inspires his students and gets great results. He is patient, committed and dedicated.
