About Ben
I have always had a great passion for maths and have shaped my academic study and career to date around this. I studied Mathematics at university, attaining a First Class (honours) degree (averaging 88% throughout) and also achieved A grades in A Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics and an A* in Mathematics at GCSE.
Since graduating, I have held several roles spanning Commercial Management, Financial Modelling & Analytics and am currently employed as a Portfolio Manager for a large Investment Fund. Additionally, in my spare time, I have been providing mathematics tuition since 2011. I thoroughly enjoy sharing my passion for the subject and helping students develop at all levels and have demonstrable success of supporting students to exceed their goals and thrive in their examinations.
I am able to provide mathematics tuition at all levels from Primary School SATs and preparation for the Eleven Plus, through to GCSEs, A Levels and even degree level. I am flexible and open to all requests, with one of my previous students requesting a tailored course of study to aid his Naval Engineering Degree (he ended up graduating with a First Class degree).
I am not only flexible in the level I teach, but also in my teaching methods, having worked with hundreds of previous students, all with nuanced styles of learning.
Maths is a subject where there are often multiple methods for finding the solution to a given problem. I have found from experience that where students struggle, it is usually down to the single method that has been taught at school. Through demonstrating several methods, I am able to identify which resonates best with the individual and build on that approach to simplify the problem in hand.
Through my significant experience to date, I have built up a strong arsenal of methods and approaches to demonstrate solutions to the common issues faced.
I am also very aware that each student is an individual and learns in their own way, using this to tailor my approach to each student. This could be through the utilisation of visual aids to support visual learners or setting out a series of steps for process driven learners. Each lesson will be tailored to the individual, in order to maximise their success.
Outside of work, I am a keen aviator and hold my Private Pilot Licence, which I regularly employ to travel the breadth of the UK and beyond.
