About Xand
My name is Xand, and I was a part of the class of 2024. During my time, I found literature to be one of my favourite subjects however I often felt that my marks were not reflecting my confidence in the subject. I was getting 90s, but I felt lost in the classroom as my teacher consistently used the same pieces of feedback for all students, regardless of their skillset. I want to teach because I am passionate about supporting students both academically and emotionally, by ensuring that they both possess a deep understanding of the content, and feel confident in their own skills.

As a learner, I found that gaining a deep understanding of the text prior to engaging with literary and poetic techniques was paramount to producing a high quality response, so I believe as a tutor that helping a student engage on a personal level to the text being studied is an essential first step. From this, learning and understanding how to use metalanguage in a meaningful way in an analysis is a vital skill that goes further than simple name dropping. Finally, understanding the VCAA marking system and methods of mark allocation is something that I found extremely helpful during my studies, and I’d love to assist other students in gaining an understanding of the rubric for the final exam.
