About Katherine
I have a deep love of writing, history, and English. Before I was a teacher, I graduated from Wake Forest University with a double major in Economics and History. I went on to work in Media and Advertising for 8 years before I went back to school to become a High School History and Economics teacher. I ended up finding a job as a 5th-grade History teacher at a small middle school that I absolutely love, and I am consistently surprised by how proficient my 5th graders get at historical writing by the end of the year. That being said, I am more than qualified to tutor Middle and High School history, economics, and English.

With tutoring in history classes, I find a lot of success in helping students understand historical concepts, the relationships between cause and effect, how to attack a historical prompt, and reading strategies. I also work with students to improve and organize their writing and how to complete a research project or paper. In English classes, I help students with close reading strategies, how to identify themes and symbols, and writing and organizing papers. I am a fun and engaging teacher, and students of mine have said how I am able to help them get better grades but also am able to make the process fun. Typical lesson plans will be reviewing content, introducing similar and contrasting ideas, and then practicing writing and revision.
