About Daphne
My name is Daphne, and I'm an English Literature student in my third year at Durham University. I've always been incredibly passionate about English, but I've also taken advanced maths classes quite early in high school and so I also have a perhaps conflicting love for math! English literature is definitely my passion, though, and I'm also really involved with theatre and how literature relates to dramatic expression.
In terms of my teaching style, I like to make sure we're not relying on memorizing or temporary understanding, but that when I tutor people, what they learn is actually something that will stick in their minds for a while because they genuinely understand it. This is particularly important in higher education, so we can build a foundation. I think wider reading is one of the best ways to learn and has definitely worked for me as a student, allowing me to get a first class honours this year. The more you read other theorists, critics, and authors, the more you yourself become a part of the literary dialogue, allowing your ideas to really find their own ground!
