Hey! I’m Emma, a Biochemistry and Molecular Biology university student who genuinely enjoys making science easier to understand. I know how tricky biology can seem at times, but I also know it makes a lot more sense when it’s explained in a way that actually clicks. My tutoring style is laid-back but focused—I’m here to help you feel more confident, ask questions without hesitation, and really get what you’re learning (not just memorize it for a test). From personal experience, I believe the best learning happens when students feel involved, curious, and confident, and my tutoring style is all about creating that kind of space. I don’t just want students to memorize facts for a test; I want them to truly understand how biology works and why it matters. I use visuals, models, and hands-on activities to make complex topics like photosynthesis and DNA replication easier to understand. Lessons build step-by-step from what students already know, with a focus on asking questions, thinking critically, and making connections. I tailor my approach to each student's learning style and pace, using tools like flashcards, quick quizzes, and teach-back techniques to reinforce understanding. Most importantly, I link biology to real-world topics like health, the environment, and everyday life to keep learning meaningful and relevant. My experience in other science-related topics such as chemistry allows me to help students connect what they are learning to other school subjects as well! Each session starts with a quick warm-up, like a review question or a fun fact/game (0–5 min), followed by a visual concept overview using diagrams and analogies (5–15 min). We then dive into the topic through interactive explanations—using animations or drawings to walk through each phase (15–30 min). Students then complete a practice task, such as a worksheet or comparison chart (30–40 min), and apply their learning by explaining a phase or creating a metaphor (40–50 min). The lesson wraps up with a short quiz, reflection, and a look ahead (50–60 min). Homework is light but focused—usually a diagram, short explanation, or recall activity to reinforce the topic. I create a supportive space where students of all confidence levels feel comfortable asking questions and learning at their own pace. I connect biology to other subjects like chemistry, environmental science, and real-world issues to help students see the bigger picture. Above all, I encourage progress over perfection, treating mistakes as essential steps in the learning process!
