Teaching Methodology & Techniques: As Head of History with extensive experience teaching both GCSE and A-level History alongside GCSE English, my tutoring approach is built on developing critical thinking and analytical skills that serve students across all their humanities subjects. For History, I focus on the "big picture" approach - helping students understand historical processes and causation rather than just memorising dates and facts. My technique emphasises essay planning frameworks, source analysis skills, and developing sustained historical arguments. I particularly excel at helping students understand how to evaluate historical interpretations and construct their own analytical responses. For GCSE English, I integrate my historical expertise to provide rich contextual understanding of literature, while focusing on close textual analysis, creative writing techniques, and exam preparation strategies. Lesson Structure: I typically conduct 75-minute sessions, which allows sufficient time for concept development and practice. Each lesson follows a structured approach: starter activity reviewing previous learning, introduction of new material with modelling, guided practice with immediate feedback, and independent application. I always conclude with clear objectives for the next session. My tutoring is designed for GCSE students (ages 14-16) and A-level students (ages 16-18) at all ability levels - from those requiring additional support to achieve target grades, to high achievers seeking university preparation and competitive applications.
