About Cecily
Strings buzz under your fingers. I teach guitar by focusing on the mechanics of sound and movement.
We look at reading tabs and sheet music as a map for your own creativity. You will find that my approach prioritizes the song structure over rigid theory. My years of playing live allow me to offer tips on how to keep rhythm even when you feel nervous. Hobbyists usually find this method helps them play their favorite songs much faster.
We keep the momentum going by focusing on real world performance techniques. Bring your guitar and we will get started.

Practice should be messy and loud. I am a self-taught musician who spent 13 years playing the chanson circuit. I find that the best guitarists are the ones who listen as much as they play.
My background includes a heavy focus on the Montreal folk scene. I enjoy working with teens and grade exam candidates who want to move beyond basic chords. I have taught 446 students over my 5 years of experience. We focus on tuning and maintenance so you can play without frustration.
You will learn fingerpicking and blues progressions that sound great on any acoustic. I enjoy the process of watching a student finally nail a difficult chord transition.
