About KAREL
I have been employed at University of Johannesburg as Manager: Cricket since 1994. Recruitment, academic monitoring, future planning with recruits, coaching, managing and directing cricket have all been aspects I have dealt with for 25 years. I have also had to deal with cricket’s administrative duties on various levels ranging from provincial to national level. Representing the university and its club necessitated me to serve on countless committees and counsels. However, my passion has always been with the coaching and developments of cricket players, I currently aspire to involve myself more with the marketing, directing and managing of sports codes or other entities.
Sports should be integral in the recreation strategy of any student campus. I have realized that sports and healthy competition, is imperative for healthy interaction and socialization in student life. Sports and the facilities thereof, should therefore be readily accessible for all of those on campus.
Social and recreational participation should be differentiated from the desire from a section of students, to achieve and express themselves in sport. Provincial club leagues and National tertiary tournaments provide the ideal platform of competition for this group to participate, achieve and excel. This group will only be able to achieve optimal performance through careful strategizing, budgeting, development and execution. Execution can only take place through providing sports codes with a high performance key of coaching, high performance assistance and high performance facilities.
Facility maintenance occurs before facility management. Currently am I dividing a large proportion of my attention to the maintenance aspect of all facilities. A well-manicured facility will always be able to carry and withstand a high frequency of utilization and competition.
Finally are international links and competitions on the doorstep of most sport participants in South Africa. These opportunities must be sought and the potential participants be nurtured and provided the opportunity to participate on a global level.

I enjoy working with groups and I am fluent with Word, Excel, Power Point. Apart from geography, history, sport psych can I also coach athletics, rugby and cricket.
