About Nicola
My name is Nicola Matthee. I am 32 years old and live in the beautiful Garden Route, South Africa.
I had a passion for art since I was a child. I had art as a subject in school and extra art classes every week during school. I sold numerous art pieces (acrylic and pastel) and I worked at two different art studios.
I studied Graphic design and Photography at Stellenbosch Academy and had visual art as a subject.
I want to teach this course to show people that there is nothing to fear when it comes to art. Everybody has creativity in them, we just need to let it out and find our style that we are comfortable in.

We will have fun in my lessons and we will be creative!
We will learn everything about drawing. We will learn what tools to use (pencils, erasers, paper, etc.) We will learn the basics of drawing and how to find your own style, as everyone cannot draw the same, how boring will that be! We will learn how to do shading and how to get contrast with light and darkness. We will explore different subject matters to find out what you as an individual most enjoy drawing (will it be nature, people, animals, abstract, etc.)
We will learn everything about painting in acrylic. We will learn about primary colors and how to mix these primary colors to make a world of new colors. We will learn about brush care and how to prepare your surface before you paint and also how to clean afterwards. We will also explore subject matters and painting techniques.
We will lightly explore some art history and the different styles of famous artists.
I can tutor in English or Afrikaans. I don't have a preference of age I teach - if you feel you want to learn more about drawing and painting - who am I to stop you!
